68 autostick wiring

I need help with some wiring on my 68 autostick I'm trying to restore.
There is a three prong plug that should plug into the side of the tranny
There isn't a place on the pass side to plug it in. This car has gone thru 2 other people who started to restore and quit so I don't know if it is the same year tranny or not. Do I need those Wires? Anybody out there with wiring knowhow PLEASE HELP

Hi Bill,
There was a 3 pin plug on the RHS which was for the High temperature lamp in the speedo...  the early cars had 2 temperature senders which connectted to the 3 prong plug towards the front of the gearbox... the two sensors were actually next to where the two top hoses go into the clutch housing...
... the 3 pin plug was also connected internally to the gearshift... it switched from one sensor to the other......  Maybe the ATF only got hot in drive 2....  so this was discontinued... in LATER Models..  there was only one sensor connected to the speedo lamp... 3 pin plug was not used..
there is also a 3 pin plug on the LHS front of gearbox, which is the nuetral cut off switch...

Hi again,
I just had a look in a workshop manual for the late model autostick.
the one wire comes from the temperature sensor to the lamp in the speedometer....
