I am a newbie when it comes to autostick gearboxes. Tomorow I will pick up one but I need to make sure EXACTLY what is needed to make it complete. The guy said it was complete, but I just need to know exactly what to look for, and so on.

The gearbox comes from a Karman Ghia 69.

Thanks in advance for the help.

PS. I am from Denmark, Europe

Check out the technical section on this site, particularly the "Exploded Views".

Also, check out this link:

As I recall, one of the manuals available is for the AutoStick.  It should help you determine what is/is not there.

Hiya Michael,

Good to see you found this website!

As Nova points out, there is a lot of good AutoStick info to be found right here.

However, there is more floating around.  You might want to point your browser at VW Halbautomatik (http://www.schmiddy.de/projekte/stickshift/e_index_1024x0768.html)
for more information on the AutoStick.

And it is definitely a good idea to have the Bentley VW Service Manual which you can find for sale over at Amazon.com.

Good luck!

Yea I bougth it. I havent had the time to check it out yet. It needs a seriously clean, and there are 2 huge boxes with stoff for it as well. It does look like the one on the site bookwus found. I think everything is there, but it does need some (maybe a lot) of work before being installed.

On the other hand, I now have it.:) So I am pleased.

Any questions Michael... just ask....
I have pulled mine apart before restoring My Beetle....

You will need a New Torque converter oil seal....
You will need to take the old seal out...
as there were two different seals..... make sure the one You buy is identical to the one taken out....
You will need the two small oil seals in the dual oil pump....
You can read about these seals on this site under technical...
I had major problems trying to buy a pair of these seals in Australia...
I ended up getting a friend to buy them in the USA....
Dichtomatik is the company that makes the oil seals....
the size is 14mm x 22mm x 4mm ..
they sit in the oil pump back to back... they keep the Automatic transmission fluid in one side of the pump and the engine oil on the other side of the pump....

Torque converter oil seals

001 301 083B late models 1970-1974

You will also need a starter motor from an automatic Volkswagen...

Thought i would add make sure you get a starter motor from someone local as it is very rare to find a new one most are reconditioned and i went through 4 starter motors that didn't work in the end they were giving me 3 at a time to try.
