When I got my beetle (1970) the wires for temperature switches were all missing.  I want to reinstall the wires but I don't know which wire plugs in to and the bently manual doesn't say anything about this.  Although not original, would it be okay to connect both temperature switches together and then run the wire to the warning light, bypassing the selector switch all together?

Hiya Untitled,

Don't do anything hasty.  If you are looking in your Bentley under the Automatic Stick Shift section you will find little in the way of wiring diagrams.

However, check out the Electrical System section.  In the wiring diagrams go to wiring diagram D.  It is the supplemental diagram for the Automatic Stick Shift built in the 1970 model year.  It contains everything you'd need to know in order to replicate the wiring to the ATF Temp switch and the Nuetral Safety switch.  Switch contact numbers, wiring colors, gauges, connectors, the whole shooting match.
