Hello,

I'm Johan, I'm 21yo and I'm from belgium...
I'm the proud owner of a 1972 1302 VW Automatic...
Here are some pictures of it

I discovered your beautiful website and forum today,
and I think it's a perfect idea to unite owners of an automatic beetle...
Now, I'm rebuilding my engine and after a few minutes, there's
my first problem...
I can't seem to loosen these nuts...
can anyone of you guys help me out with this one?

Greetzzz Johan

Hi Johan,
You hold the bottom Nut [under the tinware]and undo the top nut- which is part of the Hose...
the center or middle nut just tightens onto the metal plate to stop the pipe from rattling....
Bottom Nut - or Lower Nut is part of the Pipe.. do NOT turn... just hold..
Center Nut next to top tinware- is just a lock nut - to lock hose onto tinware - to stop hose from rattling or lower pipe from moving and becoming loose...
Your Beetle looks nice with the Non genuine rear lamps and front blinkers..

Hi 68,

Thanx for the advice
But I'll have to cope with some other problems...
I'll have to take my engine out very soon...
And it seems to be completely different with an automatic...
Do you have some advice or pictures?
(I'll post mine too when the engine is out  :P )

Thanx!

Hi Johan,
You have to disconnect the hose/pipe connection... as in Your Pic, then undo the Banjo bolt under the Automatic Transmission Fluid Tank under the RH Side rear fender and drain the tank of ATF... You also have to disconnect the hose or pipe from this tank...  I find its best to remove the hoses and cover the ends of the two pipes with a plastic bag to stop dirt entering the ATF Pump...  You also have the Vacuum hoses on the Left hand side of the engine bay... Mark these so You will know where they go.
Next You need to undo the 4 special bolts that hold the torque converter to the engine...  thru the square holes in the transmission housing...
then as You take the engine out... make sure You tie the torque converter to a bolt hole to stop it coming out with the engine...
Send Me Your email address and I'll send You some photos.. I don't know how to put photos on here...
