Hypoid Oil Change

So, I decided to change the hypoid oil in the trans.  Should be done every 30k miles or so according to the manual.  I looked at the spare trans I have, but can't find a drain plug like on the 4 speed.  Just a big plate.  The Bentley manual says there is one, and has a picture, but mine does not have this.

So, do I need to drop that plate to change the oil?  If so, can one get a new gasket for the plate or would I need to use an RTV form-a-gasket type thing?  And finally, anyone heard of a problem putting synthetic oil in the trans?  I put it in my 4spd with no problems, but thought I would check with other AS owners first.

Hi Cobey,
Yes You can use Synthetic transmission oil in the gearbox [transmission]
My gearbox has a pipe plug forward of the plate....
Later models may NOT have this plug....  I have read in manuals that if no plug is provided, then just take the plate off....
I don't have any plug in My flat plate either....
cheers
