clutch disk

is the clutch disk in the autostick the same one as in a 4 speed.  in looking at my bentley it would appear so.  i havent taken a autostick trans apart though so i thought someone else would know

No it is not the same clutch disk.
There are two solutions for your problème.
Either you can buy a new clutch disk, or you can change the friction parts.
Be careful the thickness of the clutch disk must exceed 7,2 millimetters.

It is my understanding that an AS clutch disc is 180mm and a 4-Speed is 200mm.  Replacement clutch discs can be purchased from Rocky Mountain Motorworks.

One of My repair manuals says that its OK to use a standard clutch plate.... of the same size...
So, if the clutch plate friction pads were worn, and the clutch plate itself was OK.. You could get New friction pads fitted... although it would be better if You replaced the complete assembly...
New parts for auto sticks are getting hard to find in Australia ...
Used parts are getting hard to find too...

After searching the Web for Rocky Mountain Motorworks... thru VW owners Web sites.. I eventually found that Rocky Mountain Motorworks are No More.. Gone..
They were bought out by Mid America Motorworks..  and moved interstate.. to Illinois..

So when thinking of "Rocky Mountain Motorworks"  think "Mid America Motorworks"
