Who knows what the oil pressure line should look like?

I have a '69 VW Autostick turned into a kit car. (See pictures of "Southworth")
My oil pressure registers fine when I start up, but when the engine is hot and I restart, the pressure registers very low.
The thin little line that carries oil from the engine/sender to the oil pressure gauge is transparent- and I can see that there are air gaps between the oil gaps. In fact, I estimate it's a 50/50 ratio of air bubble to oil.
Anyone know what the oil pressure line should look like? Should the line be cleared of air- or is this something that will spew hot oil under my dash?
I know this isn't an autostick problem, but where else would I get good info on a '69 VW?

Sorry,
I've never taken any notice of what the oil pressure line should look like, but whether its bubbles of air or oil... the pressure [I presume] would be the same... I don't like these gauges.. I prefer the VDO electric gauges for VWs... and any electrical gauge & sender for any vehicle..
I have had two of these oil pressure Gauges with thin clear hose but I'll never use them.. if You happen to fracture the thin hose, You will loose oil pressure and an engine.... I just couldn't take that chance, even though these gauges have been used for many years... probably from the early 1920s or 30s...

PS: Your Oil pressure in a VW engine will be much lower when the engine oil is hot and thinner... some manuals actually give the two oil pressure readings...  One reason to use a Good BRAND of engine oil ...  and change the engine oil every 1000 or 1500 miles...
Many VW owners in Australia use CASTROL GTX2 which is 15w/40 and recommended by Castrol for air cooled Volkswagen engines.

cheers
