I am pulling my engine. Where is this access to the bolts for the torque converter? Also, where can I get ATF lines?

Hiya Tao,

If you do not have the ATF lines (or any part of them) you'll have to have them made for you.  And that will involve a bunch  of measuring and some disassembly of parts you do have.

Here's what I would do...............  measure from the ATF reservoir banjo fitting to the oil pump.  Then measure from the oil pump through the rear tin to the point where this line will connect to the other line running forward to the torque converter.  Remove the banjo fitting from the ATF reservoir so the threads can be matched up for the new line.  IMPORTANT - I believe (but I am not 100% positive) that all four fittings will be the same size.  Check your oil pump and forward line fittings to be sure.

Take the measurements and the banjo fitting to a local hydraulics shop.  They can "manufacture" the lines for you.  Be sure to fill them in on the particular application.  That will allow them to select the correct materials for your line.

I did this with my AutoStick last year although I did have the fittings from the old lines (which the shop used in making new lines)  I replaced my old metal lines with steel braided hose which has a teflon coated interior.  These hoses will be around long after my AutoStick has turned to dust.

If you are absolutely desperate, I do have an old set of metal lines from a 1970 AS.  They do have the double grace of having the fittings and not leaking.  Not much to look at though.

The hole for accessing the torque converter bolts can be either in two places.  It depends on whether you have a newer or older AutoStick.  The older AS models have the access port on the side of the bell housing.  It's really hard to miss.  So, I'm guessing that you have a newer AutoStick (post 74) which will have the access port at the bottom of the bell housing just behind the transmission pan.  It may very well be covered with a plug.  And if you have a bunch of dirt and crud on the bottom of the engine/transaxle assembly it may be well close to invisible.

Happy wrenching!  By the way, I have to pull my engine out to get at the clutch.  Probable bad disc and pressure plate.  Now there are some really hard parts to find!
