i came across a  very cheap priced 2.3 type1 engine
and was thinking of dumping it in the rear end of my autostick 1302s in place of factory 1.6!
it runs on a single carb at the moment, but will fit twin dellorts soon!, vacuum outlet in mamofold should not be problematic!
any comments? what is the biggest engine you heard of on an autostick?
joy ur buggin!!

well, you may wish to reconsider that.  There are no performance clutches for the autostick transmission, so with an engine with that kind of displacement would burn up the clutch fast.  Also an engine that big would require a high volume oil pump, but you cannot get a high volume oil pump/ATF pump.  And dual carbs would require you to put a vaccum connection onto one of the intake manifolds for the servo (that is if you can get the left carb to even mount that close to the servo).  The largest engine I would put into an autostick is a 1649cc (87mm) or 1699cc (88mm).  I am currently rebuilding a DP 1649cc that I pulled from a 74 AS Ghia.

Hiya getju,

I'd be inclined to agree with Dean.

I think the clutch components would be somewhat protected from the increased torque/hp of a 2.3 by the torqu converter.  However, that would put a mighty stress on the torque converter itself.

And consider this.........   even if you went ahead with the 2.3 the only increase in performance you'll notice is when the the clutch is fully engaged and the torque converter is transfering the engine output directly.  Top end only.  So, it's still not gonna get you off the line any faster.
