Just towed home a 1970 AS bug.  It's parked in the garage awaiting some new paint, shoes, and skins.  I'm new to the AS world and have been researching this forum for a week or so.  Lots of good info here.  Hope to have the bug on the road in the next month.

JPKD,
As in a lot of other forums..........

This post is worthless without pics

Welcome to the fold anyway. If you need parts or cheap second hand transmissions, troll www.thesamba.com in the classifieds. A lot of people offload their gear there, and lucky for you most of it is in the USA.

Didn't see any upload utility so I didn't.  Just picture a 1970 blue bug -- ah now you're seeing it.

Just finished replacing the hoses.  Shifts much better now.  Need to "tune" it a bit more but it's a kick to drive.  My son and I have been working on this car together.  It's going to be his first (14 yrs old).  He's started the drivers ed and will have his license this summer.

It's got a factory sunroof and popouts.  Overall, it needs a paint job, new fenders, front apron, and hood but I'm more worried about the mechanics than looks.  If he wants to restore it, then he's got himself a project.  Otherwise, is it'll be a DD.

Need to replace the speedo and turnsignal switch but otherwise, it's roadworthy.

Not too bad for my son's first car.  We're trying to decide if this is a restore or just leave it as a DD.  At this point, I think we're leaving it as a DD.

If it's got an adjustable front beam, we may shove some different fenders on it and lower the front a bit but otherwise, some carpet and it's good to go.

It looks to be in pretty good shape.  It didn't appear to have any rust in the photos.

This was a well optioned car when new - AS, Sunroof.  The only other major option would have been AC.

This is a really nice car for your son.  With the sunroof I am sure he will really enjoy it.

Good Luck!

Well I'm officially jealous.  I had a '68 AS w/sunroof and popouts, and how I let that car go is a long, sad tale
