Swapping Oil pumps

Failed engine... found new engine but it comes with a standard oil pump.  Can I simply swap out my old autostick pump into the new engine?

What's the process for removal?  Do I have to remove the pulley wheel?

Related question... the new engine comes with a carb with one vacuum port and a mechanical dizzy.  Will the vacuum be correct for the autostick valve, or are they different pressure ratings?

Daddygo,
It depends what's in your replacement engine. The oil pumps differ being either for a flat cam (generally single port donks) or dished cam (Twin port mostly). The real bummer is most performance cams are flat type, so you'll never truly know until you yank the pumps.

So, what was your old donk? What is your new donk?

You must remove the pulley to completely remove the old pump.
Get your self a pump puller (and a pulley remover/helper if you 've got the cash) and you can loosen the 5 (? I'll check) nuts at that end of the engine. That will help the case halves release their grip (if it has one  ) on the pump. The pulley may or may not be a pain.

Carby - if the old and new carbs are both 34 Pict 3's or both 30 Picts then no, the "new" carb won't work without modification. What is cast into the left hand side of the float bowl/body on both? Should say SOLEX or BOCAR or something and below that is the model number and type.

Let us know and grab a digicam and take pics and post or email them. Makes problem diagnosis so much easier!!

Also note, that the cam plug (behind flywheel) on a engine that had a manual trans. must be installed backwards for use of the flexplate for the auto-stick.

Glad you mentioned that, people tend to forget that when using a manual engine in an auto.
