Davesquared,
Where is that oil junction type thing leading to? Maybe (don't have EKTA fiche handy at the moment) it is part of EGR/Vent. There would be only a few spigots up on top of your engine where it could go. Alternatively - post up on www.thesamba.com in the Ghia section.

Technical / is this part of the autostick ...

Hi, under my car. The black round canister with the hose going to the solenoid. I know what that does. But the other round part, is this part of the autostick? its on a 68 ghia, but engine and trans are 71. The hose A was just hanging loose, and hole B, should there be a hose on that? Connecting to what?

Thanks

Jordan,
Another Aus member, hoo-ray. I know no-one up your way but Lee is in Scone & I am here in Sydney.
'71 Standard or '71 Super? You are close to Valla where they hold a large VW show & a lot of volksies are up that way on the coast/Coffs. How'd you fare with the floods up there?

skatevw,
Low cost and High effort options.  1st things first is check your ATF level and whether is smells burnt.
Look carefully and check whether you can see ATF seeping/leaking.
Check your entire vacuum system for leaks.

Probably best to drop the engine and drop the trans. It'll cost you a new trans seal (maybe). Separate the bell housing from the trans and have a look at the plate. You'll be up for GB oil (two nuts inside GB case means pan off) as well as some form of Dexron ATF. A lot of cursing and swearing are no-charge :o  .

Re-assembly is another matter entirely - DO NOT REMOVE THE CLUTCH ARM off the trans!

Not much help but that slipping sounds heat/oil related.

Technical / Re: Drilled Carb, No Vacuum

Wunderbug,
Post a pic of your carby/engine, or send me one at ctefehinoz AT hotmail dot com. I would also ask - how is it drilled? 4mm with a 2 mm step going throgh the body or something else?

At idle there should be none/minimal. It only needs 5in/hg to activate. You can put a vac gauge on it and see if it is working with varied throttle.

Technical / 1974 auto-stick we need little...

Ok, I thought I had this 1974 Auto-stick finally working right, and so got in, started out driving. Got about 5 minutes into the drive, when I shifted to 3rd it just revved up motor and would not go anywhere? I stopped it and then tryed shifting to ANY GEAR, It just moved around to all spots of shifting, but would not go anywhere? I pushed it back home, and next day got out, started it, and everything seemed fine? I am now afraid to drive anywhere that I cant push it back, lol.
WHAT HAPPENED ANYONE???

Technical / Drilled Carb, No Vacuum
Last post by Wunderbug - 18 September 2023, 17:07
Hi, I drilled the port on my 34 PICT 3 carb for the vacuum feed, but when I put a vacuum gauge on the port it shows zero vacuum at idle and increasing the RPM. Is that the way it is suppose to be or are there any suggestions? Thanks

Last post by skatevw - 10 September 2023, 20:14
I am looking for a vacuum hose diagram for my 1974 vw standard bug Auto-stick. And there is a vacuum plastic branch That broke, has a straight with a very small vacuum coming out from side, any clue where to find it?

Hi all.
Still suffering, mostly cos DIY stuff has got in the way of me working on the Speedster. We tried to sell it to the guy who "did" the work, his girlfriend apparently was very interested. But he said we wanted too much money for it. (He was going to revert to normal gearbox.)
So we are back where we were, but with it going "off" outside under tarps. i.e. it will soon be needing a full respray due to bubbles appearing in the gel coat, or worse.
