I will be making up new hoses for my 1974 VW Autostick.  However I am missing the short rubber hose that connects the tank to the tube on the inlet to the ATF pump.  I am also missing the fitting that connects the flared tubing connector to the output side of the ATF pump. Does anyone have or know where I can get specs and dimensions for all the ATF hoses, tubing, and fittings? I can then have my local fabricators make a complete new set!  When I do, I will be happy to make multiple sets and offer them to our local AT VW community.  Vince

Hi
welcome to the world of semi auto Volkswagens
someone on here did get a new set made up...
I remember, because I thought they were special VW fittings..
most people use their old fittings... on New hose with new ferrules or sleeves [or hose clamps]etc..
its going to be a bit difficult to get new ones if You don't have a sample..
other alternative is photos of originals and take Your ATF tank and ATF Pump..
to a hydraulic specialist...  Maybe the parts were used on many other European or German cars??
so, an automotive hose specialist??

****  and I'm assuming they would be METRIC hydraulic hose fittings...             added**
**** many fittings have their part number stamped on them.. [very small.. lol]  **

cheers

I had all new hoses made with my old fittings just this past fall.  I took it to a foreign car specialist who just happened to have auto stick experience.  They sent my hoses out to a hydraulic shop and had the hoses made.  Took them a day to make the hoses, but my car was in the shop for 7 days waiting for an autostick only seal.  They are of two different colors now.  Bright blue and black.  And the hoses are much stiffer than the original hoses were (or maybe my hoses were so bad they were falling apart?).  But now I don't leave a puddle on the garage floor and there isn't a spray in the engine compartment when I go over 40MPH! :D

Hi
the hoses can end up any color these days due to the different color codes for some hoses..
I used hydraulic hose to make up My new hoses back in 1997.. the pressure hose from the pump pipe has its connector held on with two top quality hose clamps.  I think all My original fittings used crimp on sleeves that cannot be used.  You should be able to get new reuseable sleeves/ or ferrules to match the new hose and old fittings,, Your New hoses may be able to withstand 10 times more pressure than the originals..  I don't use the cotton covered hoses anywhere on My Beetle as You cannot see any cracks or leaks etc...  in that type of hose..  it also gets very dirty quickly..
so, I always recommend replacing ALL cotton covered hoses in any beetle.  One they are renewed then You know they aren't the problem if You have one... lol

cheers
