Hiya All,

I'd never really even considered the question in this post.  I've mainly got my nose into AS cars from 68 through 73 or 74 and haven't really looked at anything else.  So........here comes the question - although I think I know the answer.

Did VW make fuel injected AutoStick cars?

AutoStick production officially ended with the close of the 1975 production year (although a few were produced with leftover parts in 1976) and 1975 was a fuel injected year, right?  So, shouldn't we be seeing some 1975 Bugs with an AutoStick?  I cannot recall ever having seen the AutoStick used with an FI system.

Hiya All,

OK...............I'm answering my own question.

I checked in with "The Car of the Century" and I found that, indeed, Volkswagen did make AutoStick equipped fuel injected cars in the 1975 production year.  New ATF reservoirs and other various AS specific parts for this year only.

Hmmmmm.............I sure would like to see the AS set-up on a 75.  Anybody out there have a 75 AutoStick?  And a camera?

Hi Mike

I've only ever come across one 1303S super Autostick in Australia..
plus We never had fuel injected beetles...

that would have been a costly exercise for VW..
to have new parts made for one year only...
although maybe they didn't think it would be only one year??

Were Karmann Cabriolets 1303S beetles ever fuel injected?
and were any Autosticks...??

I'm sure you will find one Mike....

I do indeed have a 75 FI/AS with AC beetle and i am working on restoring it some parts are harder to find but mostly have it all minus the motor and torque converter, which was robbed from the car but all numbers match and wiring is there. Never had an autostick or driven one but can't wait

Kustom,
Don't forget to take a ludicrous amount of happy snaps. Since you have a '75 FI there are many, many differences in a lot of areas if my ETKA fiche is to be believed.

Good luck and welcome to the site!

Kustom,
Well, you are in for a little hair-ripping. Wih FI and post 72 (IIRC) wiring diagrams, VW decided to use an entirely different format of diag. 72 and earlier wiring diags are schematic like most old-schoolers know & love & cherish. Given the actual wiring of the AS portion hasn't changed much, use a '71 or '72 diag - with the understanding that late models ran the connection for the control valve through the fuse box, rather than what they used earlier.

You can scratch your head mightily at www.thesamba.com with all the diags posted over there. Look for any "supplement" diags as that is where the A-S stuff may appear.

Enjoy

Yes, I can't, or won't look at those later wiring diagrams... lol
They are terrible...   makes the early diagrams so easy...
