 ;D
Lee has it. 590mm for that one on a beetle. Mind you that Nxxxxx is a generic part No and I'd be wary of it.
Vacuum rated hydraulic hose or RH12W from www.belmetric.com . I know I dribbled on about Wurth hose but haven't had the time or inclination to go find the correct type from them (if at all).

Mike/Lee,
Well guys I finally found the time to replace my hose this weekend, time is at a premium this time of year lots of family reunions,  well I'm sad to say it did not fix my problem.  I still get the crunch when trying reverse, I can usually get it into the forward gears with some luck.  I gusess my next step is replacing the diaphragm?  Thoughts?

Wnelms,
How is your freeplay adjustment? Mike or Lee can set you right on the adjustment.
Lee has made mention that he adjusts it until reverse no longer crunches, and on the flip side is the official Bentley version. I haven't had to do it so there's no practical help I can offer.

Well, I have replaced all hoses, checked the solenoid (good), traced all electric circuits (good), checked gap on stick (good)  I still cannot ge the car in reverse and I have to play with it to get into forward gears and then to upshift I have to wind the motor to just the right RPM and speed shift.  Downshifting no problem. I have taken the back left tire off and stared at the servo and at the Bentley Manual on adjusting the Clutch freeplay and I'm still confused.  It has been a bummer that my ride has been down most of the Summer.  Suggestions.

Hello,  Since you have the wheel off...  Take all precautions necessary to be sure the car does not move.  You may have a bad bladder in the servo so here's how to check it.  If you are by yourself then remove the hose that goes to the bladder then use something to move the clutch release arm toward the front of the car (about 2 inches) and then put your finger over the hole in the nipple that the hose came off of.  The clutch arm should remain toward the front of the car.  If it passes this test then move your finger enough to release a little vacuum at a time and see if the arm moves and stops accordingly.  You want to test with the bladder in several positions because cracks can seal and unseal at different positions.    Oh yeah if you have a helper then you can remove the hose from the control valve which is easier and have one person block the hose after the other moves the clutch release arm. You are doing the same test just using a more convenient block off point for the vacuum keeping in mind you are introducing the hose integrity to the test.  Let us know how this test works out.

I forgot about that one Mike..
although I can remember doing it...
well, I've just adjusted My clutch servo
and I found the easiest way, once the adjuster comes off the servo unit
to take the servo off, and screw the adjuster onto the servo thread
then install.. and don't forget the clutch arm should have plastic bushes
that the servo arm and pin goes thru..

undo the lock nut slightly
then screw the adjuster towards the locknut
about 1-2mm at a time then start the engine and see if you
can engage reverse...
although I adjusted My gearshifter points about a month ago..
I am believing at the moment that the points are NOT closing
as I push down and select reverse...
I fiddled around with the gear shifter last night -
pushing the knob forwards as i shifted and no problems...

Most of the problems We have, are just adjustments
or fixing what We have already touched...   ;D ;D ;D :o

cheers
