This is why a push rod tube seal would leak -

Hi
I had a leaking push rod tube last year
when I had to take the engine out do to another problem

this is what I found..
I would have damaged this seal while inserting the pushrod tubes
and putting the head on [at the same time.. lol]

this was a new white silicon seal..
I replaced all the seals with black NOS VW seals...

but I found replacing the 4 pushrod tubes and fitting the head
still a demanding job...   maybe i needed 4 eyes and 3 hands..  lol

Hiya Lee,

When I get to that part of assembly I do this............

Seat the pushrod tubes and their seals into the case.  With the head on the studs, but not too close to the pushrod tubes, insert the pushrods through the heads and into the pushrod tubes.  The pushrods then act as sort of a guide for the pushrod tubes and keep them (more or less) in place.  That way I can grab the bottom of the head and work it onto the studs while guiding the pushrod tubes with my fingertips.  Works pretty good.

Yes thats a great idea..

I believe i install the push rods and the head and then install the push rods

I'm hoping [fingers crossed] that I won't need to do that again.... lol
