My '71 Super Beetle AS

Here's a pic of my '71, not very pretty, but mine none the less.  The front is lowered about 2 1/2 inches, I've rebuilt the engine, shift control valve, ATF/Oil pump, new brakes, hoses, cylinders, and hardware at all 4 wheels, new wiring harness, new lighting, and new exhaust system.  Once the mechanicals are done, the cosmetic work begins.

Thanks Dave, what you see in that pic is about 5 years of nights and weekends without having a garage and at the mercy of mother nature.  Considering when I got it it was pretty much just a rolling shell with boxes upon boxes of parts.  I'm hoping to have it road-worthy and inspected before winter.

Yes, old mother nature takes her toll on cars left out in the open..

in Hot climates, even a car cover doesn't help with keeping them cool inside..

In the UK [and probably Canada] the colder weather is better on the cars interior
and window rubbers etc but the salt air corrodes the metal anywhere it can...

Our rubber items don't last long = the UV rays attack them
but You can still find old beetles out in the dry parts of Australia
with very little rust...

there are a few beetles in Australia where each panel is painted a different color...  lol
then there are the beetles and type 2 kombi transporters painted in flat /matt black paint...

Hi,

the beetle i owned when I got married looked worse than that...

it was made from two beetles, welded together at the top of the bonnet
after i had rolled My beetle -

I thought I had a hard luck story with my freakish mix of parts from this '71 and my previous '74 (it died an untimely death due to complications from massive rust), so I stripped everything that was good from it, and recycled the rest.

Because in Australia - the ONLY beetles with the IRS rear axles with CV joints [and disc brakes]
are Super beetles 1302S & 1303S plus the Autostick Non Super beetles 1968- 1970

so anyone wanting the IRS rear end in Australia finds an Autostick and takes the body off
and places the body they wanted to use... sometimes an oval window or early 60s body..

Now after all these years, many beetles don't have the correct chassis or body or engine...??

but as long as they are driveable.....  lol
