The other day I was driving up hwy42 here in rural Oregon.  Another Beetle was coming the other way.
We passed and exchanged waves!  It took me back to 1955 & my first bug.  Made my day!

I love that, i get it a lot when i'm driving my baja back from the UK shows. I also get waves and a look of awe a lot from young kids and their parents as my baja has flames up the side:

;D

Hiya John,

Bug or Bus, I always give 'em the VW peace sign.  Usually, I get it right back.  A unique little comradeship of the road.

As someone new to the VW community, what is the VW wave/sign. I'm assuming it's the peace sign from the 60's?

Amen you guys,  with a little "victory sign" meaning too, 'cause we're still motivating. ;D

I haven't even driven my Bug yet and I got my first wave and honk from another Beetle owner while towing my VW home.  :)

Hah!

Sort of a combination welcome to the family and thanks for saving that bug wave kinda greeting.

Way back around 1970, I had a renault R10 car
and every driver of these would flash their headlamps at You
was kind of unique back then....

I haven't gotten around into thinking I'm a VW driver yet...lol
I had a late model [T25-3] wave to Me the other day...
I usually do remember to wave to other beetles...
and usually flash My headlamps at beetle drivers i know...

We don't usually give the peace sign, but a hand abovethe steering wheel waving..
of course it doesn't really matter so long as you wave...
even hang out the window & wave....  lol

I drove about 300 kms over the easter weekend and never saw another beetle
coming towards Me... [new beetles don't count- those youngsters don't know about the wave]

cheers

Was going to get the new brake lines up the street from my house and a New beetle honked and gave the peace sign, I do not want to be prejudice I love all Volkswagens even ones that void warranties if you pop the seal on the engine of the new beetles I love FoVays and I used to live in Port Vancouver area and people still wave period nice place to live if you do not mind liquid sunshine
However if you get a Honk and a Peace sign from anyone in SoCal your doing good drivers in Orange County are not the most pleasant of animals and this pretty lil blue beetle is honking and waving at my crusty old 68 with primer and rust everywhere I was taken aback that the spirit of Bugs is still going strong:)

BTW that does look like a nice Baja
Am tempted to Baja my bug out too not alot of AS Baja's
Tempting but mine has so much of the classic parts on it still Only thing the previous owner replaced so far as Asthetics go is the crome trim on the hood and doors/sides
I promptly tore that cheezy after market crap off was contemplating Baja IDK yet gotta get her road worthy first.

Long Live the spirit of the VEEDUB!
BTW FoVay is how the German Language pronounces VW
Fo= V
Vay= W

I had my 1st vdub in 1955.  When you saw another, it was a rare occurance complete with enthusiastic waves.
We nearly stopped and exchanged hugs!  Then thru the '60's up to 2000+, VW's were so common, nobody waved anymore.  Now that we are driving "Special Interest" cars,  the wave is back!  Great!
I love it!   :D
