Hello to all. I got my bug on the road 3 days ago. I must say it is a joy to drive, after all the hard work and days of trying to get it to run. Still needs some fine tuning. Then the fun can start. Much work is needed to get her to where I would like. It has seen her last Michigan winter and all the rock salt they use on the roads here. I have a good source for parts here The parts place.com they also ship just about any were. And Steves europen auto. I like to do most of the work myself.
I also must say it is kinda funny, When i go to get parts. They are all (like thats cool you have a 73 bug) Until I tell them it is an autostick then its ( Do you want to convert it?) And at a Vw show last weekend I was asked the same. Why? Are we not VWs? Are we not bugs? Oh well I guess im use to being a bit different. I like my little car and looking forward to fixing her up. Just dont see that many of them on the roads anymore.
I love being asked ?s about it. I even had guy ask me if he could smell the inside of my car. Funny but I guess the bug has a a unforgetable smell to it. My mother had one when i was just a kid. I had thought the same thing when i got my first one. I do get some looks being near Detroit and the big v-8 classic car guys.
i think there as much American history with the bug as lets say the Mustang. I sure do run across alot of people alittle older than me that has one. Or some beetle experiance in there past. That why I got into them. My mother had one when i was kid. Many memories of that car, I wish to restore her an other set of memories.

And perhaps most interesting is that, in all liklihood, none of those people dissing the AutoStick have ever owned one, much less driven one.

All my buddies are the same way, when are you going to convert that a/s over and I proudly tell them I'm not.
Who needs all those gears to mess with, not me.Actually I would be real pissed if I had to convert,I've had several vws over the years but never an a/s and I can honestly say its by far my favorite.Plus I think my a/s is faster through the gears  :D

My thoughts as well. I got her running good and enjoy driving it. I am liking it more and more each day. Now I got it running good I have gone to work on cleaning it up, and some of the cosmetics. It is cleannig up well very happy with it. There is still much that needs to be done. But thats what the long winters in Mich. are for. This summer I just going to drive her. This winter I am thinking of doing the body work, and re painting her. New seals all over the car. The one thing I would like to do this summer is the front end. Not bad, just a little sloppy. For now just love driving, having fun with it.
