Mike: Great explanation regarding the importance of all the hoses. I couldn't help but notice the new AS hoses in your picture. Are those s/s hoses? Were they customed made? If so where can I order some. Your hoses look heck of a lot better than my original -1971. Thanks

Hiya Rick,

Quite some time ago I decided to replace all my ATF tubing and hosing.  The tubes from the oil/ATF pump were in pretty grungy shape and I figured that the rubber ATF hoses were getting along in years also.  I had just changed out my flexible rubber brake lines and I was shocked at what can happen to the insides of those things, so internal failure in the ATF hosing was on my mind too.

I wandered on down to my local hydraulics shop and asked about doing replacements.  They thought that the steel braided teflon lined hose (the stuff in the picture) would be best for the oil/ATF pump application.  The steel braid would protect from flying rock and gravel.  They also mentioned that they would give me a break on the price if I did the whole job in this steel braided hose, so that's the way I went.  I supplied them with the actual OEM connectors and they mated up the new hose to those connectors.

Truth be told, those hoses will still be in place long after the rest of the car has turned to rust.  Mucho overkill, but they work a charm.
