Placement of Cylinder Head Temp Sender Unit

Hi Guys,
         I need some advise. As you know I recently finished restoring my 1971 SB Vert. I recently picked up a Cylinder Temp Gauge. The factory directions tell you to install the temp sender unit (a large washer with a wire attached) on the # 3 spark plug. This is not an easy place to place the sender. Everytime you change the plug you have to be careful that the wire doesn't break. Any ideas other than the # 3 plug to place the sender on the engine? The engine of, course, is in the car and I rather not have to dismantle it to place the sender in a spot. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'd like to add a CHT gauge myself in the future. As far as placement goes, I've read that the plug is the best place for an accurate reading (although VDO gauges seem to be known for being inaccurate). Much of the what I have read is that VDO gauges are good for trending temperatures and not giving accurate temperature read outs.

I have heard only bad things if you have a CHT gauge...
it will drive you crazy seeing how the temperature can rise so quickly..

all the people I know that have had CHT gauges,

pulled them out so they could drive "normal" again... lol
