Hello all, Does anyone have a trans apart that could measure the transmission mainshaft at the location that the seal rides?  Stupidly I put mine back together and didn't measure. I am going to have to look for a generic seal as I can't find a nos one anywhere.  Thanks

volkenstein

Greenghia,
I have a NOS seal I can measure for you. Looks fairly standard apart from the garter section being extended.
We are talking about the one jammed up inside the T-O bearing support nose of the trans?

Also...Try and PM Steve (Crasher). He had a whole lot of seals made for his trans when he fixed it up. And...have you tried the usual suspects? EVW? Maybe German Transaxle has a stash or Longenterprises or weddle......

PS Give me a couple of days...busy lad right now

Yes that's the one. I tried longe... today they said they have none and wont have any in the future.  Evwparts sent me a seal but it doesn't look at all like the one that came out. Havent tried the German place but will.

Greenghia,
I'll post measurements and piccies so you can compare. If you get truly stuck, I bought my seal from www.volksbahn.com.au .
www.stokersvwparts.com.au also list the seal. I would RING Volksbahn and try your luck with the online query form from Stokers.

BTW for all reading this...part No is 001 311 113 .

Hey 68autobug, Thanks for the try!  I talked with them and the A at the end of the part number means it is a seal for a manual transmission. All the manuals use the same seal. You would think that the A would stand for Auto, but alas the wizard of autoparts numbering strikes again. I am in USA Florida.

Bookwus

Hiya green,

A stands for manual?

That's not the way the VW parts nomenclature was devised.  Any suffix to the number indicates that there has been a change from the previous number-suffix.

Consequently, 113 311 113A has been changed in some respect from 113 311 113.  It could be that the the two parts are interchangeable, but don't bet the family fortune on it.  And it could be that the 113 311 113A IS a manual seal, but that is most definitely not the meaning of the "A" suffix.  You'll find that the guys at parts counters are very good at making things up when it suits them.

My apologies all,  The part number difference is in the first three numbers the autostick seal is marked 001 311 113 and  the manual trans is 113 311 113.  Sorry for the confusion.

Does anyone have the dimensions of the Autostick seal?

001 301 113  plus a photo ?

I can measure a 113 301 113A seal

All,
   The photo :

The seal measures 33x8/12x20/19. So that's 33mm OD, with a width of the large diameter being 8mm, but the inner diameter where the garter sits is 12mm. Lastly, the 20mm diameter is at the non-garter end, 19mm where the garter is. Dual lipped seal, front and garter ends. Mine has VW & AUDI logo's on it.

An update for all,  I have not been able to source one in the states. Still waiting for an email response from an australian company.  I am thinking that I may have to make a tool to bore the trans housing where the seal goes to allow a standard seal without the garter(or dust seal) to fit. I have a seal that will fit the bore but without the skirt to reach up into the housing there is not enough shaft sealing surface for the seal to ride on.

greenghia

Hello all,  Thank you Volkenstein for your suggestions!!  The guys at stokers have the seal in stock, yeaaa. I ordered one today, comming to the states from down under.  Thanks everyone for the help, you don't know how happy I am to get the correct seal..  whew!!!!
