Hiya All,

I thought I'd show you what I've been dealing with for the past couple of weeks.........

I was in the left hand lane going the same way as a guy in the right hand lane when he decides he's going to make a (illegal) U-Turn.  So, without looking, he turns right into my lane placing his vehicle dead in front of my Bug.  The only thing I had left to do on finishing the exterior was to change out the running boards.

Sigh!

What a waste! Are you hurt? (that's what matters)

With any luck, this photo will be just a good conversation piece in a year when the damage has been fixed.

Unbelievable!! People just don't pay attention anymore, they think the world revolves around them.Hope you weren't hurt, and i hope that the bugs not tweeked out to bad.Make sure you get tough with the insurance company, and don't sign anything till your happy with the outcome.

Oh dear, hope your ok and that it's not to hard to get it back to the way it was.

Thanks for commiseration guys!

Dave, I was sore all over the day after this collision.  Lots of little aches, pains and bruises.  But nothing serious at all.  Yeah, I'm hoping that this will be nothing more than a bad memory.

Jay, An illegal U-Turn and without looking!  It was, to say the least, a surprise.  If you look at the damage in the picture the spot that has me most concerned is the spare tire well just under (what's left of) the front bumper.  Not only has it been dented but it has also been slightly moved to the right.  The fenders and hood are bolt-ons but that spare tire well could be problematical.

Chris,  We'll see how it goes with the other driver's insurance company.  I had the car into their claims center and they took a very careful look at it.  But I have yet to hear back from them and it's pushing two weeks since the collision.

Not sure how it works over there but if they write it off so you get the chance to buy it back?

Bookwus

Hiya Chris,

That might be one possible outcome.

But I'd rather not go that way for a couple of reasons.  One, such a write-off would result in "salvage" title in this state.  Not a good thing, it can really drop the price one might get if they decide to sell the vehicle in the future.  And two, I am not prepared to let them take possession (even if it's only long enough to sell it back to me) of something I've worked so hard on for so many years. Plus, I do not know, at this point in time whether the company (Progressive) would be willing to sell it back

YIKES MIKE

Sorry to hear of Your delima...

and all that effort gone into Your Beetle..

I hope You are OK... after all the aches go away...

I hope You can fix Your beetle...

We have classic car insurance over here Mike
so, if the car is written off...

You still keep the car....
so, You can fix or use the parts in another car...

I don't know if we have the law over here about cars written off.. [salvage]
being able to fix them again etc... or sell them...

I know they have it in the UK... see it in their TV shows...

but You can fix a car over here, especially older cars...
the newer ones would have to have their ident plates etc
still on the vehicle...

Maybe You should think of having a "BULL BAR" on the front MIKE...

or extra strong bumpers and brackets etc... both ends..

cheers

LEE
