Ok so I got my "new to me" '71 autostick convertible.  the body is solid but has dents and dings and the rubber needs to be replaced andthe chrome was sprayed black at one time so needs to be replaced and when they repainted the car at one time they didnt mask things properly so there is overspray on everything.

so i was trying to do some "prep" work and strip the car as much as I can before taking it to the body shop so less money for me to have them remove the chrome and stuff.

so i had replaced the chrome on bugs before no big deal so I went to town ripping everything off the car I could get my hands on.  there was a karman badge on teh passenger side between teh door and front right fender.  I went to pop that bad boy off (it had some overspray on it) and I managed to damage it and crack the stuff the emblem is made out of, the epoxy or resin or whatever.  I didnt think too much of it, figured I grab another one.  then came the forhead smacking moment.  If I had spent 30 seconds longer properly removing the emblem I would have saved myself like $50 in replacement cost and would have had the original one and not a replacement.

sigh... live and learn.

If something cleans up and is difficult to remove,  use the old trick of coating it with vaseline before painting.
