Hi
You could use the smaller carb to get You going but power will be down...
so, Yes a 34 PICT 2 or 3 should be used..
What distributor are You using?   the original with the vacuum can? or the dreaded 009?
I used a Bosch 009 for mnay years until I purchased a SVDA dissy from aircooled.net in the USA.
it made the world of difference..  so smooth... no flat spots at all.. and gas usage has dropped considerably... so the 009 distributors cannot be recommended.. Bosch or chinese EMPI etc..

You may have to drill the vacuum port for the control valve..
the inlet manifold also needs the vacuum port for the control valve/clutch servo.
I had one welded onto a new manifold.. just drilled a 1/2 inch hole and pushed a piece of pipe in the hole and had it welded, it could also be brazed into place..
My Son welded the pipe horizontal instead of at an angle but it made no difference..
My 1500 engine is now a 1600 but still single port..

cheers
