Hi there, lots of useful info on these forums.  We are in the UK with a '73 Autostick that needs a lot of money spending on it before we can get it back on the road.  One day we'll get there!

Well I'm in NEW England, across the pond....rusty zone as well.
Having VW's, I'm sure you know of: thesamba.com and shoptalkforums.com  both interesting internet reading.
Cheers (that's right-yes?)

I've not used vzi yet, will have a look there too.  A trip to California (just for parts obviously) would go down a treat with my mrs. :)   Just discovered our car was first registered in Cornwall in 1973, I wonder if the original owners are still around!

Welcome Guys
well after seeing photos of air cooled VWs that are located in the "rust" areas in the UK and the USA.
I believe any old VW in these areas is very rare, as when I see pics of fenders/wings/guards with rust holes in the top of them.... YIKES..
the chemicals and Salt they put on the icy roads just eats thru any bare metal...
I have never actually seen a fender/guard/wing with a rust hole in the top, as most metal over here is eaten away VERY slowly by rust...  in normal circumstances..
I remember someone in the UK telling Me that they used the old sump oil, to spray under His beetle, to keep the rust away...

If the people who owned Your 1973 beetle were young enough then they may still be about.. there are two original owners still driving VWs locally - both in their 70s now...

Lee in Australia   -- soon be cool enough to drive My beetle - and use the heater even...

Hi Dave,
Did you ever find out if the 1st owners are still around?
I wrote to all of the owners of my 68 and the original owner's daughter replied to me by email with some early pics, it was great, I would recommend doing it if you haven't already

:D

Hi,  no news yet.  I did post over on TheSamba too but no joy yet.   I have no addresses for previous owners, just a figure of 14 owners.

If you fill out a v888, send to the dvla, they'll give you a list of all of the owners they have on record, it just costs a fiver. I was really pleased with what they sent me.
