Funny thing happened when getting new tires for My beetle****

I parked My beetle about 6 meters from the tire shop
just adjacent to the drive in ramps for changing tires/wheels..
I was talking to a young fellow at the counter and I said He could drive My
beetle onto the ramp...
He looked inside and said "I can't drive a manual, I'm not allowed to.."
I said its OK it an automatic...
He looked at the gearlever....
He then proceded to lift the carpet and mats near the brake and accelerator pedals... [I presume looking for the "other" pedal??]

anyway, I ended up driving My beetle up the ramp...
and off the ramp later on...

Hiya Lee,

Here in the States insurance regulations usually prevent the customer from driving their vehicle into the service facility.  Whenever I'm in that position I wind up giving a mini-driving lesson.  I have not run into one service person yet who knows how to drive an AutoStick.

Well. thats really the case nowadays over here Mike,,,
there are signs everywhere saying do not enter..
but I buy all My tires from this shop
and the manager is a VW beetle owner...
who I've known for years...

I probably wouldn't get into any other workshop
because of the "work cover" insurance laws over here..
which IS a pain, as I like to see what mechanics etc are doing..

If anyone ever got hurt in a workshop [Car Owner]
then they would be very strict...
plus I'm in a country town...
things Would be different in larger towns and Cities...

Ha ha, yes I get the same thing every year when I take it in for inspection.
