Anyone sell New Servo rubbers?

Hi,

I have received an email from a person in Australia looking for the clutch servo rubber
or complete assembly...
I looked on some US websites but found nothing....

are they still available??

Hiya Lee,

Not generally, no.  The company that had been repopping the servo rebuild kit went out of business some time ago.  In the large scale commercial sense, we are out of luck.

However, Sean has referenced a person who has been repopping the servo diaphragm.  He will have more information on that for you, I'm sure.

If you scan the "usual sources" you can get lucky once in a while.  This ad has been running over at the Samba.............

Might be worth trying to contact him to see if he has another rebuild kit.

the email was from a Girl who owns a beetle..
and Her Mechanic is looking for the servo for another customer who has an auto beetle,
He has tried some VW shops like Vintage Vee Dub.. and His regular suppliers {??}
He also has no knowledge of computers...

I can advise Her of other VW shops who may have one, used??

     I'd rather run the vacuum hose to my gob than cough up 109.00 US .  I got a 40 DRLA for that price!!!

Besides the guy's ad that Mike posted on TheSamba (27 US!!! with instructions!!) Bugcity are the only shop I've come across who have it. CIP1 and Hoffmann-Speedster are out, KarmannGhiaSpecialities (?) are out, EVW are out etc etc.

So...besides second hand servo's, NOS occassionally, Bugcity and Micheal re-popping them there is no more choice (Vulcanising patches aside ) as far as I'm able to determine.

The BeetleExchange are selling up shop in Canberra...might give them a try? What about Nick @ Volksparts? That's for complete second hand servo's of course....

You may well have bought their last one.

The only thing close that eVW is now offering is a complete used servo at a whopping $170.00.  Ouch!

My general advice to any AS driver regarding servo rebuild kits or diaphragms is this..................should you find one for less than $50US, seriously consider buying it and adding it to your parts stash.  Bug City is now asking $110 for a servo rebuild kit and that price (according to the Law of Supply and Demand) will only continue to increase.

I just heard back from Michael, the seller of the AS clutch servo rebuild kit I mentioned in this thread above.  He is selling these kits at $27 each.  Take a look at his pictures over at the Samba.  I bought one and can attest that these kits are high quality.  Here's what Michael had to say about them.............

"I have had 6 of these kits for about 15 years.  I bought them because I had a couple of AS cars.  A couple of the kits had open packages and the rest were closed.  The person I bought them from owned a VW repair shop that he had closed some years before.  I am pretty sure that they are not VW manufacture, but the shop was a high-end shop and so I am sure they are of good quality.  I still have three kits left, one that is opened (but all there) and two sealed.  I also have a Sachs (NOS) servo and a bunch of good used stuff."

You can contact him via the Samba.  I would urge you to do so.  This is a great value on a part(kit) that is now almost non-existant.  And of all the parts in the AS vacuum system, the clutch servo diaphragm is most likely to give problems.
