Car is in three parts, body on a bodybuck waiting to be put back on pan, pan is on the lift going over every thing, engine and trans is on a stand waiting also. Ran car for short trips around block before tear down and auto trans seamed to shift ok at low speed but will give it a true test this summer, trying to get ready for the Type3 Invasion this summer in Milan Michigan.......Looking forward to the forums here for help if needed also if I can be of help with any questions.....VWt3

Hiya vwt,

And welcome to the forum!

We can always use source authorities, so please feel welcome.  Sounds as if you are in the middle of a full scale project.  Please feel free to post pictures!

Most of our discussions here center on the AutoStick.  But we have more than a few threads concerning the Type 3 Automatic,  Even a couple of threads about installing the fully automatic Type 3 tranny into a Bug.  So, we're up for just about anything.

Keep us posted on your project and remember the pictures!

Welcome vwt3

as mike said, We are mainly involved with Beetle [type 1] autosticks..

but this a VW two pedal forum

I didn't know until about 5 years ago that there were fully automatic type 3s..

and now at VW shows I see a lot of them [compared to manual type 3s]

so it looks like they were extremely well made also..

Best of luck with Your project

Lee

Thanks for the welcome, I've  had this car for over 20ty years and worked off and on it over the years, don't know that much about the auto but learning as I go along. Its a strong unit I've been told and built by Borg Warner can handle a couple hundred horsepower. With my engine we built to have a lot of low end torque for we can have more power thru the lower gears.
135 HP right now on a Stuka bench dyno torque about the same. I post up some pictures.
