Parts Prices

Hiya All,

OK, it's a given that some of the parts for an AS are getting hard to find. Try finding an NOS throwout bearing sometime. And following the law of supply and demand, prices for such items should be going up. But this is ridiculous................

Just went over to look at that--------got to be a misprint or I could be sitting on a lot of bucks here !!! Have you contacted them about that price yet ?? Be interested to know if it is a typo.

You know that was exactly my thought, gotta be a misprint. And, truth be told I have not contacted them to confirm the price. But the part is listed in other sections of their website for the same price and it has been there for at least 5 months. Were it a mistake, I'd think it would have been corrected by now.

Errr...I got mine off Fleabay Aus for $AU 29.00...A little more reasonable, eh?

I think I mentioned in dfrommi's (and Mike and I have discussed this previously) that the servo diaphragm kit has increased in price by 250% in 3 years.
When I started looking they were $US 25, now they are $60, if you can get one. If faulty memory serves, Mike picked one up for under $US 20 before I started looking. Supply (no new at present, except for Michael repopping just the bladder) and demand I guess.

I think the other pain is the clutch disc. I couldn't find much of a measurable difference between it and a 1300 Twin Port disc, but the ask is nearly US100!!.

At least Bug owners aren't in the KG prices league.....

Hiya Sean,

I pulled out my receipt for the clutch servo rebuild kit I bought in January of 2004. $14.95 US. I should have bought a couple more!

Hi Guys,
Yes, I saw the price of the vacuum advance unit too...
and in the photo, the unit doesn't look new either....

the replacement gearbox seems Ok pricewise...
[for those living in the USA]

evw seems to be the only company selling a lot of autostick parts...
[I could be wrong?]

Went back to eVWparts and they changed the price on that vacuum advance unit to $109.50. Still a bunch but a LOT better than before !!!

Yes, I've found that all prices of Beetle prices has increased dramatically
over the past few years...
I'm just glad I bought most of My restoration parts around 10 years ago..

although I still buy many VW parts and accessories on Ebay [Australia]..

it seems that the clutch throwout bearing may be Now unavailable...
so, just pull it apart carefully, and grease with Lithium based Moly grease and it will go for another 20 - 30 years..
maybe more..

We are lucky that the Autosticks were extremely well made...

My Son is also interested in Australian made Ford mustle cars and has a couple
He is restoring...
but the prices for new parts are 5 to 10 times more than the beetle prices...

so I now feel We are better off than some restorer owners...

but then again VW parts prices in Australia are 3 - 5 times more than those in the USA....

Many people ship VW parts from the USA to Australia even though the cost of air freight is Sky High....
