My Beetle after a 10 year restoration...
[mostly due to ill health] bought in 1986..
Just about everything that could go wrong Did..!!  ??? ;D ;D

and no one wanted to know Me after I mentioned

VW Automatic
"they are nothing but trouble...." I was told by Mechanics....
"get rid of it As soon as you can"
but I wasn't going to sell this Rare Autostick... beetle...

lowered front suspension [caster and camber adjusters]
glass sunroof - Alternator
1600 single port engine with Weber carburetor
Bosch 009 dizzy - Chromed Air Cleaner -
Doghouse oil cooler and fan and tinware
Alloy crankshaft pulley [degrees]
Electric fuel pump with  pressure regulator and PSI gauge
Hella H4 Halogen headlamps - BOSCH Fog lamps - Hella driving lamps
New heater boxes
New Muffler [standard] with modified tail pipes
Fiberglass rear valance [removeable]
Tachometer - Volt Meter - Oil Pressure + Oil Temp gauges
Front Disc Brakes were standard -
Just about everything was replaced - Mechanically and electrical..
New Windshield and Hoodlining - Tinted windows -
rear fender stainless steel stone guards-
New running boards with wide stainless steel strips..
JVC stereo CD player/radio
High Energy electronic ignition
six inches wide chromed wheels - 165x80x15 front  205x65x15 rear tires
CB finned alloy extra sump with strainer

Here is the torque converter on the end of the gearbox..

My Dash -
New Cassette player [bought 10 years ago]
has been replaced by a JVC CD Player -
carpet has now been laid...
I have pop out windows to fit...

Front Disc brakes were standard on 1968> Autostick Beetles in Australia
also on all Super beetles...
Gas comfort shocks were too hard for the front...
Now running standard oil Shock absorbers...
at front and rear..

I have now added a Universal High Energy Ignition system
which I bought as a kit...
I've had it for a few years, but just installed it..
and WOW...
it has given Me more horsepower - better acceleration -
I can really feel the difference...
so a better / larger spark with controlled duration does work..

Hi Chris,

I really wanted it painted White again, as I love white beetles..
especially with the original black and white wheels..

I kept giving My Son colors that I picked ...  orange ..  white etc..
and he kept coming up with colors and color combinations...

but He came up with the Mitsubishi Silver Gray Metallic color...
and We both finally agreed....   lol...

I just read today that approx 600 autosticks were imported into Australia in 1968...

Some German manual beetles were also imported before CKD kits started to be assembled.

so thats why there are so many 1968 beetles...\
and 1968 autostick gearboxes....
