Well, I'm hoping 2009 will be a worry/problem free year
with no major breakdowns etc....
No stress at all....!!

I can't wait.... lol

A bit late, but a good, breakdown free, year also.

had my first "breakdown" already, battery worn out, had to buy new one

Well, no breakdowns yet
but I do have a few things to do to My beetle..

replace the inlet manifold
replace the oil cooler I'm using for a better one..
replace the camber adjusters on the front wheels.. for more adjustment..
replace the speedo for one that the kms work... and have blue LEDs.. all the other lamps are now LEDs except the alternator lamp..
replace the standard fusebox with two new push in fuses type boxes..

thats enough I think... lol

PS:
I did have to charge My battery a few weeks ago.. hadn't used the car for a few weeks.. so far so good..

Really? we should trade.

mine is stil original and after 36 years even a volkswagen gets bit older, and rusty.
specialy with the weather here, lots of salt on roads in winter time.

i needs a total restoration, but have no time for that till next year, so it has to keep it ip a bit longer.

I would really prefer a non restored one in excellent condition..
one owner with low kms...
they do turn up now & then...

it took My 10 years to do mine.... lol

I have found a replacement inlet manifold in excellent condition
I just have to have the vacuum pipe welded on
[something I forgot about...l.ol]

I've been using a manifold electric blanket and heated inlet air
since last winter... and it goes OK so I haven't removed them..

Oh yeah! And if that heat riser is solidly blocked it's just about impossible to clear it without using drastic means like cutting, drilling, and welding. And with the expense of all that it's just about easier to find a new intake manifold.

And the new intake manifold you've found is not an AutoStick specific manifold? So you have to allow for fitting a 12 mm port just below the carburetor base? For what it might be worth...........I've cleaned a few of these intake manifolds for repainting and it looks to me as if the vacuum ports are brazed on rather than welded.
