Shift Rod Question

As I recall the shift rod for an auto tranny is longer than the one for a manual trans.  The reason I ask is that I have two shifters sitting side by side in my garage and I'm not sure which one goes in my Auto Stick Ghia.

Help a guy out before I make a mistake putting this thing back together.

Thanks!

G'day there,
I will put my hand on my heart and say that a 1970 standard A/S Beetle and 72 Superbug A/S shift rods measure at 44 5/8 inch, or a smidgen 135mm.

A lot of discussion on www.thesamba.com about A/S to manual conversion points to the fact there is a lot of discrepancies between the lengths of manual shift rods.

What you can do is slip one in, but NOT through the bushing, and check the length. A real PITA but at least you can yank it out and try your other one.

Enjoy
