Hello,
I am a newbie here. I was looking to find a decent wiring diagram for a 1968 Autostick Beetle. The ines I have seen was for the super beetles that have a 12 fuse block. The 68 only has a 10 fuse block. Please point me in the right direction!

Depends on what part of the circuit You are looking for, as the autostick part isn't included in the standard wiring diagram....

scan down past all the bus diagrams until You find the 1968 Beetle diagram...
I'll send You some diagrams on the Autostick electrics etc...

Thank you very much! I have been befuddled with working on my Beetle for some time. The original wiring was spliced so many times that it was a horrible mess. So I replace all the wiring with a new harness. Thinking that would solve my shifting problems.

These diagrams are very useful Thank you!

Welcome to the group!

Inasmuch as you seem to be having problems with shifting, and you did need a wiring diagram, I'd take this opportunity to suggest that you get yourself a copy of the appropriate Robert Bentley's Official VW Service Manual for your car.  It has an excellent section on the AutoStick and the older, used manuals have color wiring diagrams.  In any event, these manuals have much useful information for anyone working on a VW.  I wouldn't think of tackling a job on my Bug without the Bentley (and a bunch of other manuals I've collected).

And, of course, there is always this forum; a great spot for information also.

I did have 13 owners, operators and workshop manuals...
but i gave 4 of them to My Son last week...
He's restoring a 56 Beetle and doesn't like spending his money on Books
unless they are very cheap....
I bought most of My Books thru Amazon.com in the USA....
You can get used books at giveaway prices...
I've also bought many other books on VWs and Beetles...
from amazon too, as Motoring books are very expensive here in Australia.
I've also downloaded pages of VW info from individuals on the internet and put them in folders...

Thank you again for the emails. Right now I am just drinking up all I can with the Autostick. You have given me some great helps. Maybe once you are through wiring up your son's Beetle, you could hop a flight over and lend me a hand! Or you could drive you Beetle to the US... they float right!  

 I am sure I'll have heaps more questions as I go. And it is great to find a forum of folks that really help. Thank you!

Hello all,

I finally worked out many electrical issues I had. I have it all wire up right (I hope); I took Lee's advice and made my own wire harness for the transmission, and after a few unsavoury moments fixed my nuetral switch problem. I used to be able to start my Beetle in any gear... no more! Now it's the way it should be , I have to have it in neutral. One problem down!
 
However..... I still cannot engage it in any gear after starting. If I try, it grinds  :x . My next step, recheck my hoses. There is one hose I haven't replaced yet, the one coming off the clutch servo to the Vacuum control. Could that be the culprit? Or do you think it could be something else?

That hose could definitely be your problem.  If it is not holding a vacuum then your servo can not work.  So, it definitely an item to check.

Do remember this................shifting in an AutoStick is an electrical operation assisted by a vacuum system.  Whenever you have shifting problems (of the nature you describe) you want to check out both the electrical (shift lever points to control valve solenoid) and the vacuum system (manifold to control valve to vacuum reservoir, cv to servo, and carburetor to cv)

If the small vacuum hose going to the carburetor comes off...
it can take a long time for the clutch to engage...
so, it will seem You aren't in gear...
