VWAR Old forum !

Ok now I have seen people swap out their standard manual trany from bugs to bus trany's because they are tougher transmissions?  My question is, a guy near me has an old beat up 73 bus with the pancake motor with the auto transmission, would i be able to put the bus transmission into my bug? and if so would that allow me to get a few performance parts for my engine for a little more power?  I have yet to actually do any work to my engine/transmission because they work well now and I would like to find more specific literature on how to work on and maintain the auto trans before I tackle anything in that area.
