VWAR Old forum !

I have recently accuired a 68 saxomatic vw. after some work, having to switch the engine sice the old one was rusted stuck. I finally got an engine up and running. The problem now however is that when i try getting into gear I only experience that oh so well known grinding sound.. =( I have now checked that when the gear lecer is moved the clutch servo pulls back without a problem. It seems though that the clutch doesnt fully engage. I have however at times managed to get it into a gear making the few minutes of driving a true pleasure. Any tips for adjustments, incase it is needed I have a fully working backup kit with clutch servo, vacume cannister and controlvalve. But since the clutch servo pulls back when "trying" to shift I dont think this is the problem... Please help me out before it is too cold to take my roadster out on the streets.
Maybee i should add that all gears shift nicley when the engine is turned off.

I have the problem of getting my beetle into reverse. Like you I checked the servo and it seems to be ok. After much trial and error I have discovered that I can slip it into reverse no problem if I maintain high revs. This could indicate that I am not creating enough vacuum at low revs. Perhaps my next move is to replace the hose from control valve to servo. All others have been replaced, as has some of the old wiring.

If this doesn,t help I will replace the control valve and solenoid  with another I have aquired. However the problem there is (as it is second hand) I don't know what condition it (the replacement) is in.

Failing that I guess I have to turn my attention to the servo, then clutch.
