so how do you change the clutch in a semi auto where is it and what plate does it use.

Hey Willie, I just replaced the clutch on my '69 autostick [haven't put it back together yet].  You have to pull the engine and then remove the bellhousing from the transmission.  The clutch disc is on the transmission side of the bellhousing.  Good luck.

I understand they are not openly avaliable in Great Britain (I guess Haynes has the market over there) but you need to get a copy of Robert Bentley's Official VW Service Manual.  You can go to www.vwbooks.com and get a copy for the lowest price around and they will ship it to you.  The Bentley shop manual has a complete step-by-step procedure for removing and installing the bellhousing and the clutch.  Lotsa pictures and diagrams also.
