Exhausting question...

:D  Well, my newly acquired 71 Super AutoStick has a little bit of an exhaust leak and the muffler is looking like it's close to replacement time.  The question I have is this.  Is there anyone out there who is running other than a stock muffler on their AS and still using heater boxes?  I guess I'm a little concerned about clearance with the lines and such that are on the AS.

The previous owner gave me a brand new Bugpack extractor (header) and a Bugpack Mondo muffler.  It's a stock 1600dp and I'm wondering if this exhaust would wake it up a little.

I also have a Weber progressive intake and carb that I thought about putting on it.  I would much rather run a set of duals, but I know that there just isn't enough room back there.

Any input appreciated.  !

Hiya gleason,

I can't speak to aftermarket exhaust systems because I run a stock configuration.  But I would mention this thought.......

A while back I replaced my ATF lines with new ones.  The replacements were made from teflon coated steel braided hose.  The two hoses I had made replaced the reservoir to pump and pump to coupling (just above the rear tin) hoses.

Instead of the original metal lines I now have these (somewhat flexible) hoses.  This approach might give you more space by allowing you to move and secure your ATF lines away from a custom exhaust system.

Just a thought.

Just an update for anyone interested.  I installed this muffler  on my 71 Super AS.  Fits great and sounds pretty cool.   8)  Like any other aftermarket exhaust, it may not give you the preheat needed to make it run the best, but it sure sounds good and looks good.  Wasn't hard to install, but make sure that you have some preheat tube bolts before you start.  The standard bolts that come with a std. muffler install kit don't fit.  The paint is nothing to write home about but it's easy enough to pull off once it's burned well to put some real paint on it.
