:?: VW Autostick vacuum hose help requested.

First, I'm looking forward to being part of the Register!

After looking through: Bentley, Haynes and some others, I cannot find the proper vacuum hook-up for the following OEM scenario:

1) 1974 Federal Emmissions
2) Has small vacuum-actuated EGR valve in front of carb
3) No throttle positioners, altitude stuff, decel valves, bla bla came w/this car.

Where do the hoses with this set up go?  From the books, I've concluded that:

1) The single vacuum advance line goes via a metal line, to the left side of the carb.

2) No idea what part of the carb. the Autostick control valve goes into.

3) No idea where the EGR valve line goes.


There are two open outlets on the carb., one right in front of you (looking at it), and one at the right hand base.   I just wanted to ensure I did this job right!   Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

the vacuum pipe goes into the carb pipe, where it sucks. This supplies the vacuum. Might be worth having a look at a carb book to get a better picture. You might have to drill into it so have a hoover ready to suck the filings.

I've got an original workshop manual kicking around somewhere, if I can find it I will send you the page.

It is a strange combination, I was told that thin hose needs to be in the proper vacuum port or it will just empty the vacuum tank and cause trouble, or somewhere in between.

(Just trying to write this all down, as I'm far away from driving "Tommy Boy" yet.)
