Hi Everyone... I'm new to this forum...

I was planning on switching the clutchless tranny for an standard when I bought my 71 Ghia Vert... but now I like it.

I noticed the terminology confusion on other posts, so just for clarity, I'm referring to the shift positions as VW assigned them - Reverse, Low, 1, 2

Any advice on the following would be appreciated:

If the car is sitting still but in gear 1, its sometime hard to get the tranny out of 1 into neutral, and occasionally when driving, the shift from 1 to 2 is difficult... sometimes it feels like the shift pattern has changed and 2 is not where is was last time I shifted... like I have to feel around until I find the path to gear 2.

It also lurches when I shift into Reverse with foot on brake, but I think I can chase that down with the information gathered from other postings.

First off, check all your hoses.  A vac leak will cause all sorts of problems.  Also, you will want to check your shiftrod bushing and coupler.  These two will give you odd shifting problems like you describe (where did that gear go?).
