The starter motor burned out on my 68 ghia autostick.
I bought a replacement Bosch part no. SR17X and it doesn't fit.
On the original starter there is a  area that has been flattened on the side to miss the tranney. Is there another starter motor that we need?
I've checked a bunch of sites and they all use the SR17X part number.

Thanks, TOM

Problem Fixed -
:P It was the right part number, but for some reason it was necessary to grid a flat spot in the Aluminum housing. It fit right in.

the BOSCH part number for the starter motor for VW autos is:
0001 212 005 006
vw part number stamped on starter motor : 008 911 023A

I finally picked up a spare starter motor VERY cheaply on ebay here in Australia.... after looking for two years....
