Oil pump metal line

There is a kink in the metal line that runs from one side of the oil pump to the other. I've seen these come up from time to time but was wondering if anyone has ever made one from flexible line. I suppose I could cut out the middle section and splice in a flexible line.

Hiya Conrad,

That is exactly what I did a couple of years ago.  I removed the metal lines and took them to a hydraulics shop.  They scavenged the fittings and manufactured new lines from steel braided hose.  The interior of these hoses are teflon lined.  Works really well.  Cost me about $65 (IIRC) when I had them made.

does anybody make these new, or how good are used ones? i twisted and bent the hell out of mine... i dont know how salvagable it is anymore.

Jfpvw,
I got mine second hand and they were in better shape than the ones on my car. A PO had managed to flatten/twist the feed line from the tank to pump. I took it off and carefully beat it with a ballpein (that's an oxy moron!) back to more or less tube-like.

The pump pressure line to breast plate tin is the work of the devil as it incorporates a bulkhead fitting at the tin end. It could've been done much better.

The pipe itself is plain old mild steel. The nasty part are the oversize nuts (relative to pipe diameter) and that a pair of ends are swedged/brazed to the pipe, rather than being flared.

If you have the equipment you can make your own, and at the same time eliminate some issues on the way.......

Enjoy

Hiya jfpvw,

Hmmmm...............I might have a pair of used metal ATF lines out in the shop.  Interested?

I'm having a set of the flexible ones made at a local hydro shop, so I may have a spare set as well.  Or, if you want, I can send over the pricing on the new ones.

Cheers!

btw, here is a picture of my pipe... it twisted with the nut when i tried to take it out (the nuts are supposed to move freely, right?)

jfpvw,
Try the ads in the classifieds section on www.thesamba.com
Always autostick bits 'n' pieces there and someone may part with the lines from a pump they are selling.

The two pipes coming off the pump are original on My car but the flexible hoses have been using barbed hose fittings and hydraulic hose.
I made them Myself as I was working with Hydraulic hose etc... at the time..  I did purchase the complete Auto stick [excluding the flex plate] from a local who changed it to a manual gearbox...  My flexplate came loose - the rivets came loose, so My Son welded around the center piece after I had knocked the rivets in....  I have seen new ATF pipes at Swap Meets ..   Yes, the fitting at the metal plate is a really weird one...
I tried to add a copper washer to tighten it up, but it leaked, so the washer came back off....
