Finding a comunity totally devoted to the auto side of Vws is great, have been feeling very isolated and lonely for quiet some time :(,

But now its all changed :D

Am from Australia, Sunny QLD from the northern side of the goldcoast, i currently own a 1969 1500 Semi-auto bug that i have been working on for almost 6 months now. Originally got it as a rolling body, i have since chopped off hte rear apron and the nose for a bug eyed baja kit I got :D, retrieved the original 1500 semi auto engine, cleaned up the running gear, and refitted the engine gearbox and flywheel etc... and am currently in the process of wiring and piping it up to finally say i own my own RUNNING dub Lol.

Have been having  trouble trying to get info on it, but this place is great :D so its all kool now. been working on the car heaps lately, just remounted my ATF reservoir and Vacuum canister in the rear parcel tray due to the mounts being cut off during the baja conversion. I have been told the semi auto doesn't make the best baja, cause it has a very low 1st gear ( apparently equivalent of 2nd in a standard manual bug of the same yr ), but ay... is character, a little different, and trips people out when u say u got a semi auto lol. I'm sure there are some ways i can give the engine the balls it has lost from the tranny :D

so yeah, hi all :D
'm the only one under the sun that didn't get it...

Cobey

There is another baja locally here that was recently converted to a 4spd.  The owner stated that the reason for the conversion was a matter of preference, but the baja did great using L (not R1) to get around.

Hi Chris,
I can't think why an Autostick wouldn't make a good Baja Beetle...
Most of the books I have say VW said to only use Low when parking or driving up steep driveway etc....

But, I've been told that its better for Your transmission etc if You use the 3 gears, which are 2nd ,3rd & 4th from a standard box...
When You use the 3 gears, the car goes really well...
Hope You don't have all the problems I had Chris.....
I have even seen a 1500 [single port] autostick with twin carburetors....
