Pedal Assembly Question

I was dismantling my pedal assembly to clean it and have some of the parts powder coated.  I tried to drive the pin for the pedal out of the base and sheared (really, broke!) off one of the ears that holds the pin in place.

Can such a thing be welded? it looks like a cast aluminum part.

I thought all pedal assys were cast steel - early Beetles
or welded steel - late model beetles

I did manage to acquire a fairly nice pedal assy from an autostick.  So I'm happy.  Someone over on the Samba recommended I try and use the base from a standard trans, seeing as how the combination of the clutch pedal and the brake pedal widths would probably be about the same as the autostick brake pedal.

Can anyone vouch for that solution?

I think the Right Hand Drive ones are the same...
all welded steel..
because our throttle pedal is over on the RHS of the floor
our pedals have very long bases - approx 4 -5 inches long
so they never wear out..
I have noticed in My manuals that LHD pedals have very short bushes
so they would wear very badly...

I have spares of everything...

Early [late 50s] beetles had grease nipples so you could grease the pedal assembly..  I recently heard of someone doing that to their late model
pedal assembly...
