I have taken out an engine in my splitty before but was wondering what extra items have to be removed in order to get the engine out of a semi auto.

Obviously I will need to disconnect the oil pump pipes but is there anything else?

Any help before I start would be appreciated. Also is it possible to fit a larger engine without causing any issues to the auto specific parts.

stcos85,
Remove the vacuum pipe from the manifold to CV, and the carby to CV as well. The feed line from the ATF tank to oil pump should be removed (after draining the ATF tank) preferably at the oil/atf pump connection. The feed line to the trans should be disconnected too at the breast plate tin.

Don't forget to disconnect the engine wiring harness as well.

Lastly, after undoing the four torque converter bolts make sure the TC doesn't follow the engine when you pull it! You might want to paint index marks on the TC and flex plate. Might not be necessary but you never know.

thanks for this. so really not a great deal more than normal.

are the torque converter bolts easy to remove?

I find it wise when re-installing the engine to mark the bolts with a
marker or daub of paint so I will know which ones have been torqued.

stcos85,
Sort of. There are access windows on the bellhousing on your model.

Try not to drop them inside the bellhousing when unscrewing them.

EXCELLENT ADVICE, BUT IT REALLY HURTS ME MOST IF I LOSE ONE WHILE SCREWING THEM IN!  I LIKE TO STUFF THE BOLT IN THE SOCKET WRENCH WITH A BIT OF PAPER TO HOLD IT TIGHTLY.  A SHIM, SORTA.

Having dropped the in on accident when I swapped out the old trans, I agree - it's a pain in the a$$.  I went with some of the poster gum inside the socket to hold the bolt in.
