Help with carb for auto

I am preparing to work on the carb as I feel it is the cause of some rough running and rough idle.  My question (one of many but I will make it short) is are there any replacement carbs out there with the extra vacuum hose attachment for the auto stick?  I have bought a new 34 pict carb from CIP and it was supposed to fit all models but it doesn't have the extra hose attachment for the auto stick. can I do something with it or do I need to drill that out?  I also bought a rebuild kit in case I couldn't get the new carb to work and I may just tear it down and put new gaskets and jets but is it possible that I could get by with just replacing the jet screws as the car is all original and I hate to mess with it too much.  I am nervous about working on it as I don't know any one who will work on it for me.  If anyone knows of a mechanic in the central or NE area of Missouri I would appreciate some contact info
Thanks

nickelcoffee,
Read the "slames into gear" thread just below, or "stock 34 Pict 3" thread for more detail.

A steady hand on your drill, some fabbing (or grabbing) a fitting is all that is required. If you have an original carb just yank the fitting out of it. Do yourself a favour and don't do this whilst the carby is on the engine.

A Brosol H30/31 comes with the stock AS fitting but is a smaller carb. Gain economy, lose top end and may possibly be dubious with a later SVDA/DVDA distributor.

Use a lot of spray carb cleaner, compressed air in the passages and check for throttle shaft slop on the original carb.

EDIT. Only 20000 miles?? I'd reckon your carby isn't worn
www.vwresource.com and find the 34 Pict adjustment section.
And it may just require a clean, and check/flush the entire fuel system?
Plugs checked? Adjust points, timing, valves? Vacuum leaks etc etc?

Thanks for your help and yes it really is less than 20,000 miles and in some
ways I wonder if that has caused the problems i.e. sitting around for long periods without being driven etc. I think I will start with the ideas you mention like cleaning the carb completely and replacing the jet screws etc. before I attempt to dissasemble the carb.  I have the "Bug-me-video" with directions to clean and check carb and distr.  So I will start there and see what happens.

Thanks again and I will keep you informed.  I love this forum!!!

Nickelcoffee,
Fuel that sits around for a long time can turn nasty and become almost varnish like (smell) and will gum up various passages.

There is a passage/jet junction area you should pay some attention to with the carb cleaner/compressed air. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.
Removing the screw in plug for said jet is not for the faint hearted. Ditto the jet itself.

Nickelcoffee,
                 Here ya go.

On the bottom photo, that red circle (? )  is where that little screw plug lives. SOB to get out. Behind that is the auxilliary air jet. I wouldn't bother trying to get that one unless you like grinding down screwdrivers.

On the top photo, up the top where the red highlight is and the brass jet to the left and down, is the junction area where the aux air jet and pilot jet and other stuff meet. Go the lash with carby cleaner and compressed air. Also pay attention to the transition holes (a vertical line of them) are in the carby throat starting where the throttle plate closes.
