I just bought a 71 super beetle automatic stick shift! The car just grinds when i try to put it into gear. I've read the threads of what it could be but when i bought the car the guy said it would be running. Now the car has no brakes and he said that when the brakes failed the car stop going into gear! I highly doubt this but i may be wrong, if someone knows otherwise please let me know.

Thanks, manny

Hi Manny
the brakes have nothing to do with the axle/gearbox etc...
not connected in any way...
so the master cylinder probably needs replacing if there is fluid in the bottle and the brakes don't work...
Your emergency Handbrake should still work..

Have a look at My website...

You really need to understand How the autostick works to find the problem
as it can be many different things...

firstly, check the control valve works...
all vacuum hoses are connected... large and small...
Hoses aren't cracked etc...

once you have checked all these,
and You find they are all working correctly,
then You can adjust the arm on the clutch servo above the LHS rear axle

best of luck
