Rebuilding the AutoStick

Hiya All,

I thought I'd share a recent experience with all of you.  I had my AutoStick transmission rebuilt.  Now, that alone should be news for some of you.  Seems that there are very (VERY) few places who will rebuild an AutoStick transmission.  I found an outfit (with an excellent reputation) in Bend, Oregon, USA.  They are German Transaxle of America.  They do business all over the States and rebuild (as their name implies) any German manufacture transaxle.  I visited their shop while they were rebuilding my tranny.

My rebuild is a complete "take the transaxle apart", clean all parts, inspect the parts, replace (if needed) with new (or inspected/tested used), reset all tolerances, new clutch parts, and new seals all around.  I'm set for another 34 years of driving.

However, there is a problem with this happy scene.  I was told while I was in their shop that this was the last "completely honest" AutoStick rebuild they would be able to do.  Reason?  After mine was done they would simply not have all the seals to do the rebuild.  But they DO have parts bin after parts bin full of AutoStick parts.  The manager of the shop told me that if they had the seals they could build AutoSticks all day long.

Moral of the story?  If you need internal parts for your AutoStick this is THE place to contact.  And you might want to try talking to them about the possibility of a rebuild even with your old seals.  These guys are good and very professional.

I see this is a rather old posting Mike...  I have just had to but some oil pump oil seals from the US from a German Company Dichtomatik who actually makes these seals..  I had to buy 10 of them but cost was $28US plus postage... to Australia ..
If I had read this post I may have chased up some other oil seals...
I do have a spare NEW torque converter oil seal...
Tried to buy another one this year, but no longer available..
Maybe Dichtomatik still makes them... they have warehouses in the US too..
Its sad to see that something like an oil seal can stop a car !!!
