Hi Lee,

You were right, mine does have a "karmann" badge on it, its on the passenger side (right side) of the car by the front fender. Never thought to look there for it.

Mike,

The auto stick decal will fit in my rear window, I will get back to you as soon as I have the money if you could hang on to one for me i'd appreciate it.

Mike

I just opened the box with the decal I bought from you. Couldn't be happier with it. I'm impressed with quality of the whole package (the decal itself, the shipping, the well written instructions, and the price). Thanks for making it available to those of us in the two pedal world.

Hiya Dave,

Thanks for the strokes!

Always great to get good reviews.  The printer tells me that it should last nearly to forever in the back window.  And, if you get a chance, as I mentioned in the instructions, I'd really appreciate a picture of the decal in your rear window when you get it in place.

Hi Mike,

I just remembered..
in early beetles there was just a yellow VOLKSWAGEN decal
in the rear window...
naturally it wasn't all that large...

From what i've seen on Australian VWs
they ALL used the VW automatic badge...

Kombis/transporters/BUS - type 3s [saw one today] and the autostick beetle.

cheers

Lee

Hiya Stephanie,

Not a problem.

Don't sweat it.  The decal will be here.

One small thing you could do for me however...............what are the measurements on your rear window?  How high and how wide?

Hiya Lee,

Just VWAutomatic?

From the research I've done, the scripty Volkswagen Automatic Stickshift decklid emblem was supposed to have been used on all US/North American imports for the 68 model year only.  Interestingly, VW could not get their hands on the emblems at the very start of production (August 1967) for 1968.  So, they grabbed a pile of the VWAutomatic badges from the Type 3 production line and slapped them on these very early 68 AutoSticks in order to get them to the dealers for the start of the sales year.  So, to this day, there are few 68s running around in the States that sport the VWAutomatic emblem and are (technically at least) correct.

I don't know about VWs other export markets like Australia.  But I have seen the VWAutomatic badge on later year models in Europe.  That leads me to believe that the Volkswagen Automatic Stickshift emblem was a USA only kind of thing.

Hey Mike,

Will post the measurements as soon as I get them from the guy I'm buying the car from.

Yes,
I believe it is so Mike...
but any thing can happen with VWs...
there is ONE 1968 1200 Beetle that was sold in Australia... by a well known dealer back then..
I can't remember the story, but it came off a ship in Sydney,
and it was supposed to go somewhere else??
anyway it was delivered Here and sold to a Lady...
when She died it went to her nephew...
He had it restored to the original specs.. it was for sale and it was like new... maybe better...
He had all the paperwork - delivery dockets etc...

the 1/4 window frames were painted - the blinker housings were painted  - white.. tail lamps were the same as a 1965 beetle..
so it was really low spec beetle. car was white...
I know these were sold in Europe and the UK...
but how it got so far away I don't know...

I do have pics somewhere...  I saw it about 6 years ago...

I also saw a similar beetle that was imported from France.. LHD and yellow headlamps etc..

sorry to get away from autos for a moment...

cheers

Lee

My rear window measures 30 1/2 inches wide and 10 1/4 inches high, the decal might fit, but I have another decal I am putting in the middle of the window of my tattoo design, so it won't leave enough space for both.

I just bought a "automatic stickshift" from a guy on the samba. I'm not sure if I'll use it since it's meant for a 68' but It's nice to have the option. I really like the look of it. I also think the automatics will become more collectable since so many have been converted or lost since thier original production.
