Deck lid Script

I have never seen the colors of many German made beetles
on Beetles assembled or totally made in Australia...
beryl green was.. but in the late 50s the most common color was a very dark green..
When the company making VWs in Australia was taken over in the early sixties and were also making
DATSUN 1600s, Volvos and MAN and Mercedes trucks
the same colors were used on all of these vehicles...
Antartica White was one color - and an orangy color was also very popular on Beetles type 3s and Datsuns..
and Volvos..

the factory use Berger and Dulux paints..
there was usually a sticker near the spare wheel..
there were only about 6 colors at a time being used
and no metallics ever...

onto another subject
which i just read in an aussie motoring magazine
that many people in cities now take everything out of their
gloveboxes and leave the glovebox lid open
so any thief can see there is nothing to steal...

That happens in the UK all the time now!

I was on a training course a few months ago with work and I had to stay in a Hotel in Nottingham. Three of my work colleague's cars had the windows smashed because there was a circular mark on the windshield where the sat navigation system had been and the theives thought they were in the glove box.

Luckily I don't like to spend money on gadgets like that so I just had a map instead!

Yes, I have heard of that happening in the large cities in Australia
My Son told Me as He has the telltale mark on His windscreen/windshield

maybe, stick something else on there once the sat nav it taken off
like a $5 suction cap compass....

I used to use them years ago
but never took them off....  lol

Way back a few pages ago, I was on the fence about switching my emblem for the script version and then made up my mind to keep the original one.....well now I'm changing my mind again! Found a script logo on Samba for 20 bucks!  Man I was jazzed to get that for the price! So, I'm switching after I paint, which is soon hopefully  Just wanted to share this tidbit with fellow Autostick owners, 'cause you guys are the only ones to whom it might remotely interest!

I just have the VW Automatic on My engine lid..
I have used two sided foam tape to stick it to the engine cover..

but I have now added the proper clips on the inside...

I hope no one else wants it either! I was pondering that when I put it on for a sec to see how snazzy it looked...."hmmm....someone might think that's cool enough to snatch...." So then I had to start thinking about the locking deck lid button, and then, well crap, they could just rip it off... So I abandoned that train of thought 'cause it started to depress the heck out of me ....I guess if someone takes it, I can just use the VW Automatic one, but it would tick me off for sure....
Just gotta get some the clips and I'm in buisness.....

If You used two sided tape as used on new cars these days
the badges are very hard to take off...

but with only the pins and clips..

they can do a lot of damage trying to take it off
and may just damage the engine cover and break the badge into pieces...

I used the two sided tape on every piece of the VW automatic badge that I could fit some
so its nearly impossible to take off...

I can lock My engine cover.. but rarely do...

unless away somewhere...
I still have to fit an alarm button to the engine cover
so the alarm will work....

the last mexican beetles had a VW horn sitting just inside the engine cover at the top RHS
so if anyone opens the engine cover they get blasted...  [when the key switch alarm it turned on]

the only person I know with the Autostickscript badge in Australia [/color]
was told by the VW mechanic he goes to , to take it off, as its the only one He's ever seen..

Hey Lee-
So are you using the tape as well as the clips? Tape must be mighty thin....what kind?
If it's possible to use both, I'll probobly do that, extra insurance you could say
BTW, I was thinking of you, being the only Austrailian person I know of last night while I was watching "Lost".....isn't is strange that on a flight from Sydney, there was only one Austrailian? Dunno if you've seen the show or not, just a quirky thought....

      Sort of, depending where you are in Oz. My local sports club (huge!) has a baseball diamond and they play. It's big in South Australia. More than a few cricketers (Lee, Alan Border for one, Chappel brothers etc) have.  "The Big Three" tend to crush other sports simply because of the small population. Waaayyyy back when I was in High School you'd spend the odd P.E. session playing Baseball, much to the delight of my South Oz mate who was a catcher. Certainly Australian baseball get's zip coverage on TV where I am unless you have a PAY-TV satellite and get the US broadcasts.

IMHO anyway, maybe the other Oz denizens from other states have much different views.

I enjoyed watching an Oakland A's game when I was over in the states. The only thing that game didn't have (besides good beer ) was a triple play.

I don't see a Decklid Script mentioned anywhere .

I haven't seen or heard of any baseball being played in country areas...

Baseball had teams and a baseball ground when i was in high school back in the late 60s..
near Newcastle about 120 miles north of Sydney...

As We were governed by the UK [England] since Captain Cook landed here in 1770
tennis and CRICKET are big over here along with Rugby Union & Rugby LEAGUE football & SOCCER... [all UK]
along with AFL Australian Football and Basketball is played in just about every town/city.
its also Captain Cooks fault We drive on the LHS of the road.. etc... RHD steering...

I used the double sided foam tape to put onto the rear of My VW Automatic badge
I stuck it onto the badge then i trimmed it up with a razor blade..\
so it cannot be seen...
make sure there isn't any wax etc to stop the tape from sticking properly
and chances are it will never come off...
I didn't put any tape under the very thin pieces like the underscore line...

I don't know why I added the clips later on...
maybe because i had bought them... lol

the VW badge on My bonnet is only held on with blu-tac
or similar type of soft putty [white colored]
it was only a temporary thing but its still there...

All these different deck scripts are quite interesting. My 74 just has the "Volkswagen" on the back, not VW_AUTOMATIC, but it also had the fancy looking "Automatic Stickshift" one in the glove compartment. It looks like it mounts exactly the same as the VOLKSWAGEN one (same 3 pins). Ive been considering putting both of them on at the same time (sacrilege, some will say!), but I figure this cars about what I like, not what others do
